What is Obesity and What Causes it?

When a person has excess weight or body fat that could be harmful to their health, it is said that they are suffering from Obesity. If a person has a high body mass index (BMI), a doctor will typically suggest that they are obese.

Doctors use BMI as a tool to determine whether or not a person is the right weight for their height, sex, and age. It combines a person’s height in meters squared and their weight in kilograms.

When a person’s BMI is between 25 and 29.9, they are considered overweight. A BMI of 30 or higher indicates obesity in a person.

What Is Obesity, And Why Does It Occur?

Obesity can be prevented or reduced by maintaining a healthy weight or losing weight through diet and exercise. But occasionally, a person might require surgery.

  1. Taking in excessive calories

A person’s body will store extra calories as fat if they consume more calories than they use for energy. Obesity may result from this.

Additionally, some foods and drinks are more likely to cause weight gain than others, particularly those that are high in fats and sugars.

  • Fast food,
  • fried foods, such as french fries,
  • fatty and processed meats,
  • lots of dairy products
  • Foods with added sugar, such as cookies, breakfast cereals that are ready to eat, and baked goods
  • Foods like ketchup and numerous other canned and packaged goods that contain hidden sugars
  • Juices, sodas, and alcoholic beverages with added sugar
  • Processed foods high in carbohydrates, like bread and bagels

High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener found in some processed food items like ketchup.

Obesity and weight gain can result from eating too much of these foods and getting insufficient exercise.

People who eat primarily fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and water still run the risk of putting on weight if they overeat or if genetic risk factors make them more susceptible.

They are more likely to enjoy a varied diet while keeping their weight in check though. Fiber, which can promote healthy digestion and make a person feel fuller for longer, can be found in fresh foods and whole grains.

2 -Choosing to live a sedentary lifestyle

Many people are significantly less active than their parents and grandparents were.

Sedentary behavior examples include working in an office rather than performing manual labor and playing computer games rather than engaging in outdoor physical activity.

driving instead of walking or cycling to places

A person burns fewer calories the less they move.

In addition, hormones and physical activity both have an impact on how a person’s body processes food.

3-  Steer clear of high fructose corn syrup

High fructose corn syrup is present in a variety of products, such as: • Sodas, energy drinks, and sports drinks; • Candy and ice cream.

  • Coffee creamer • Sauces and condiments, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, and salad dressings
  • Breads and other premade baked goods • Breakfast cereals, cereal bars, and “energy” or “nutrition” bars • Sweetened foods like yogurt, juices, and canned foods •By doing the following things, a person can lower their intake of high fructose corn syrup and other additives: • Reading nutrition labels before making a purchase; • choosing unsweetened or less processed foods whenever possible; • making their own salad dressings and other products at home; • recognizing that some foods contain other sweeteners, which may also have negative effects.

4 –Medications and Weight gain

Weight gain can also result from some medications.

Examples include: olanzapine, quetiapine, and risperidone, three atypical antipsychotics; gabapentin, an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer; tolbutamide, a medication for hypoglycemia; glucocorticoids for rheumatoid arthritis; and some antidepressants.

Although Weight loss may result from some medications. If you are starting a new medication and are worried about your weight, you should ask your doctor if the medication is likely to have any impact on it.

IS OBESITY SUCCESSFULLY REPETITIOUS?

It might be more challenging for someone to lose weight the longer they have obesity.

Because of a protein called sLR11, a person’s body is less likely to burn fat the more fat they carry.

It appears that a person’s body will produce more sLR11 the more fat they have. Protein prevents the body from burning fat, making it more difficult for them to lose the extra weight.

CONCLUSION

The emergence of obesity is influenced by a variety of factors. Some people’s risk may be increased by genetic characteristics.

Most people’s risk of becoming obese can be decreased by eating a balanced diet with lots of fresh foods and engaging in regular exercise.

However, maintaining a healthy weight may be more difficult for those who are genetically predisposed to the condition.
